KY HOMEPAGE UPDATE
Hello Everyone!
It has been a very busy but exciting time for the KY IBRA as well as on a National Level. Hopefully by now you have all heard the news that this years National Finals will be held at the C Bar C Expo Center in Cloverdale, IN. A lot of you have been to C Bar C and know that it is an outstanding facility! For those of you who have not been able attend a show there yet there are several upcoming super shows to attend all of which you can receive KY points at and get your test runs in before Nationals. We look forward to having an exceptional year!
State Finals Dates Set
On the state level there is much to look forward to! The KY State Finals dates have been set for Aug. 23-25. The state finals will return to the Central KY Ag Center in Liberty, KY so mark your calendars. We will return with a great deal of added money, saddles for the winner of every division of every class, Top Dog jackets, Blankets, Halters, Saddle Pads, all the good stuff. I also hope to have Champion buckles to award to the winners of each division this year in addition to the saddles!
Welcome Cowtown
We have been fortunate enough to gain the sanctioning of another indoor arena in KY at the Kentucky Cowtown Arena in Williamstown. Special thanks to Shannon Henry for helping us get this ball rolling and to Mark Fox (show producer) for welcoming the IBRA. The first show at Cowtown was a success with a great turn out. There were some kinks to be worked out as there will be anywhere but Mark seems to be very interested in solving any problems we may have.
KY Awards Fundraiser and Double Point Show
The annual double pt show awards fundraiser show will be held at Bluegrass Saddle club this year. It will be held Saturday June 8th. Where ever you place at this show you will get double the points. So if you win a division you will get 200 pts. If you are second in a division you will earn 182 pts. For all of you who have taken a winter break from showing, this is your opportunity to catch up! All of the proceeds from the show will go to benefit the KY IBRA Awards program. I am asking that everyone donate an item to me at a show sometime between now and then for the concession stand. We have had some items donated but need much more. For every item you donate you will go into the drawing for a free membership. If you donate a pack of hot dogs your name goes in once, if you donate two packs your name will go into the drawing twice. The winner will be announced at the show. We also need items for the silent auction table. Anything that someone may want can be donated! Below is a list of items still needed for concessions. The perishable items can be donated later but please speak up for them now so that we know we can depend on them.
Hot Dogs
Hamburger Patties
Cola
Can of Nacho Cheese
Chips
Candy Bars
Anything else you may want to have!
Co-Sanctioning KY IBRA with shows in other States
There have been several questions that have been floating around regarding KY IBRA co-sanctioning with shows in other states. I would like to provide some answers.
Q: Why are we not approving all the Henryville, IN show?
A: We have to maintain a since of balance in the state. Right now if you look at where all of the shows are most are in the same area, red barn, bluegrass and we have had 6 co-approved shows with Yankeetown. This leaves no chance for those in the other areas of the state to qualify as top dogs or for awards. Especially when you consider that our double point show this year is at Bluegrass. That is why I only approved TN the March 2nd weekend to give the southern members a chance to get some points. Plus going out of state is easier points for the most part and we have to maintain control of that as well. The KY members in our area have more opportunity to get points than anywhere. Also co-sanctioning used to be a rarity and we have opened the doors quite a bit. One of the reasons that we opened up co-sanctioning was to help with balance. We can take IN for example. Indiana usually has 4+ sanctioned shows per weekend but most were up north. By co-approving with some KY shows it gave the southern IN members a chance for some points. On the flip side of that if a member wants to run in an outside state all the time they may need to consider joining that state.
Q: Why do show producers have to wait until 30 days out to request or receive an answer in regards to co-sanction?
A: Of the $2 that IBRA collects at its preferred shows, $1 goes straight back to the awards. It is the state directors job to make that fund as large as possible so that the awards can be the best possible. I encourage all of our directors to wait until about 30 days out on co-approving to see if they can get a show instate sanctioned rather than co-sanctioning and having their members go across the line to support another states awards fund. This is where the member has to make the decision as to which state he/she should be a member of.
I hope that this helps clear up some questions for everyone. If you have anything further I will do my best to answer them.
Friday Night Shows at Red Barn
I just wanted to point out to everyone that we will be having a couple Friday night shows at Red Barn. One on March 29th and the other on April 12th. There may be more to come but there are several factors that will help us make this decision, one of which will be the attendance for the first two.
Preferred Show Reminder
We have our annual Futurity and Preferred show coming up in Lewisburg, OH on April 4-7. It is a preferred show so KY members do get points and there will be 18 Wildcards awarded. There is a lot off added money up for grabs. There will be no late fees for Open, Youth and Masters! The earlybird deadline for the Futurity is March 8th. We hope to see you there! If you cannot make it Hodge Arena will also have a show on Friday and Saturday that same weekend.
Thanks to all of you for your support and I look forward to seeing you soon!
